Welcome to 2nd grade! I look forward to a wonderful second semester with our class. Please check this site weekly for important updates! News 2/11/18
Literature/Reading/Phonics- This week we are learning many new spelling words and grammar rules. We are learning about subjects and predicates, complete sentences and sentence fragments. We are practicing writing complete sentences beginning with a capital letter, including a subject/predicate, and ending with proper punctuation marks. We are reviewing the first 71 phonograms. We are currently reading Tall Tales and learning what makes a tall tale.
Math- We are reviewing mental addition while learning mental subtraction. Please have your child review addition and subtraction facts each night for at least 10 minutes.
For MATH FACTS HOMEWORK- whenever your child is assigned math facts homework, they are to practice multiplication math facts between 0-12 for at least 10 minutes that night. They may use any form of practice they wish. They can make quizzes on a piece paper, practice flash cards, use an app, go to a web site, practice orally, etc. There are a ton of resources online for math facts practice. Between 0-12 means anything like 12x12=144 or less, or 144/12=12. Please reference the multiplication and division facts sheet sent home for a reference.
Science- Microorganisms, magnifying glass, microscope, cells, Anton Van Leeuwenhoek
Geography- We are beginning to learn about the Constitution and the War of 1812.
Please make sure your child is bringing in an age/ skill level appropriate book each day to read.
Homework will be written in planners each day. Regular daily homework will be to read any 2nd-3rd grade level book for 30 minutes each night. It can be done independently or with a parent. Parents, please sign the reading log in your child's R.E.D. folder each night indicating that they have read. There will be no homework on Fridays and weekends.
Please sign your child's behavior calendar each night indicating that you have discussed and reflected on your child's daily behavior with them. Thank you!
